We build the frame of the fan today. We cut pieces of wood (fig 1) into two 18 inch pieces and two 8 inch pieces. The 8 inch pieces are for the front and back and the 18 inch pieces are for the sides (fig 2) The two 8 inch pieces will also have two holes in them so the motor and the fan can fit into the allotted slot.
I think that this will work out very well because all we need now are some gears and a fan and we can finish, theoretically in a minimum of two days if we have the correct materials; one day for the cutting and implementing of the motor and fan, and one day for implementing the gears. Today we did not have anything to build with but we did change the plans of our original plans from having a pulley to having a motor. The original plan was to have a wood box and a pulley cut into one side and a fan on the other. We decided to scrap that for a motor because it would be much easier. We also will not put the top onto the box so that you can see what is going on.
I think that this will go very well because with a motor because that would cut the work down to a minimum which is the main reason for all technological progress in all of human history; to cut down on work(ex: the oven so that they didn't have to do the work to make a spit and cook it over an open flame, or the Hubble Telescope which allows us to not do the work to explore so many planets because we can see them from earth). Like all advances in the history of the world, we cut down on work for a bigger payout so it would be almost 100% more efficient. |
